Statement of Faith – Pilot Lake

The following statement is not exhaustive. The Word of God in its entirety is our sole authority of what we believe. We believe that the following statement is an accurate representation of the teachings found in the Word of God and is therefore binding in all of our agreements and relationships.

The Holy Scriptures

We believe that the Holy Scriptures, which consist of the sixty-six books of the Old and New Testaments, constitute the complete Word of God. We believe that these books are the verbal, plenary, inspired Word of God, inerrant in the original documents, infallible and able to be clearly understood. We believe that these books are the final authority of our faith and practice. These Scriptures are to be interpreted literally, grammatically, and historically. (II Timothy 3:15-17; Psalm 19:7-9; I Thessalonians 2:13; John 17:17; II Peter 1:19-21; II Peter 1:3)

The Godhead

We believe that God is self existent, infinite Spirit who is the creator and sustainer of the universe. God eternally exists in three persons; Father, Son and Holy Spirit. These three are distinct yet inseparable. (Genesis 1:1; John 4:24;
John 1:1-3; James 1:16; Exodus 3:14; Matthew 28:18)

Jesus Christ

We Believe that Jesus Christ, the second person of the Godhead, at His incarnation became fully man while still being fully God. He was born of a virgin and lived a sinless life. We believe that His death upon the cross was propitiatory and substitutionary for sinners. His death was sufficient to pay the penalty for sin and to bear the wrath of God. Upon His death upon the cross, Jesus was buried and rose again bodily on the third day. He is now in Heaven sitting at the right hand of the Father interceding on our behalf as the mediator between God and man. (Philippians 2:5-11; John 1:1-5; Hebrews 2:14-18; Mark 16:9)

Man

We believe that man was created on the 6th day of Creation apart from any act of evolution, and He was created in the image of God. Although man was created as a sinless being, Adam chose to sin and therefore, because of his sin, all are born with a sin nature and are destined for an eternity in Hell. All mankind is therefore completely and wholly depraved. In this state, man is unable to please God or to even understand the things of God. All mankind is therefore alienated from God and a subject of His Wrath. (Genesis 1:26-27; Genesis 3; Romans 5:12-21; Romans 8:7-8; I Corinthians 2:14-16; Romans 3:23, 6:23)

Salvation

We believe that Salvation is by the grace of God alone, and it cannot be earned or gained by any work or virtue of man. We believe that man is justified by grace alone through faith alone, based on the imputed righteousness of Christ alone. This justification is made possible by faith in the substitutionary death of Christ upon the cross, and through the shedding of His blood for our sins. (Ephesians 2:8-9; Romans 8:28-30; John 3:16)

Holy Spirit

We believe that the Holy Spirit is the third person of the Godhead. All believers have been baptized in the Holy Spirit into the Body of Christ. He now resides in all believers empowering and guiding them as they apply the Word of God to their lives. The Holy Spirit gives each and every believer spiritual gifts that they are to use within the Body of Christ. (Romans 12:6; Romans 8:26; I Corinthians 12, 13:8; Acts 5:3-4)

Sanctification

We believe that sanctification and growth in Christ follows salvation because the believer has been regenerated and set free from the slavery of sin. This will evidence itself in the life of the believer as he/she submit themselves to the will of God through the power of the Holy Spirit working in their lives. (Romans 8:12-13; James 2:14 ff; Romans 6)

Satan

We believe that Satan is the created being, Lucifer, who fell by sinning against his creator, God. When Satan fell he took with him a number of other angels. Satan is the author of Sin and the great deceiver in the fall of Adam and Eve. He is the enemy of God and will one day be cast into the Lake of Fire along with all those who do not come to repentance. (Ezekiel 28:12-19; Isaiah 14:12-14; Genesis 3; Revelation 20:10)

The Church

We believe that the Church is the bride of Christ for the purpose of proclaiming the gospel of Christ and glorifying Him in worship. The local church is made up of believers who have been immersed in believers baptism. (Acts 2; Ephesians 5:23-33; Colossians 1:18; Ephesians 1:22-23; Ephesians 4:11-12) We believe that the offices of Pastor/Elder and Deacon in the local church are roles that God has given specifically to men, as leaders of the congregation, and not to women. (I Timothy 2:12)

Marriage

We believe that marriage is reserved for the union of a man and a woman. Marriage is never to be between two men or two women.

Homosexuality

The Word of God teaches that sexual intimacy is reserved for those within a marriage relationship and is only to take place between a man and a woman. (Genesis 2:24-25; Matt. 19:5-6; Romans 1:27-28
